This is dedicated to you #Dwayne#butta can’t believe it has been 8 years since you have been gone ! #rip#restinparadise#love you and miss you brother. Wish you were here to meet my daughter #calianna !#like you have always said the memories of your friends and family will always keep you alive ! I will tell her stories about you ! And she will know why her name is calianna! I know you will always look over her from above !
The steps it takes to do Calianna's face! Please enjoy these potato pics of potato me!
1 - I start by blocking out the eyebrow on my right side - the dragon side! I use the glue stick method, and because I'm paranoid of losing my eyebrows to silicone, I also put thin sheets of bog roll on top as an extra barrier between my face and the silicone. I use a 2-part SFX silicone (artex, from kryolan, although the are alternatives) and put it on my face with spatulas and my fingers after mixing the two parts in equal amounts. It dries clear, so you can't see it here, but it is there! I draw the scale pattern in by dragging a flat edge spatula through the layers before it dries (this is hard to do neatly and I'm kinda meh about how it's turned out so far!). 2 - While i wait for the silicone to dry, I do natural makeup for my normal side. Then I start painting the dragon side! This is all in dark grey, a combination of alcohol paints and liquid suede lipstick by NYX.
3 - The dark grey tops of the scales means I can shade the dark parts with black, which I do! Using eyeliner, eyeshadow to set, and some more liquid suede.
4 - I leave some gaps for my... Uhm... Face spikes?? These are made from polymorph thermoplastic and painted. I glue them to my face using spirit gum, but this didn't hold the full con day (partly because my wig hairs caught on them a fair bit - Calianna, why you hide your face so??) so I want to try some alternatives (and cut a long fringe in the wig). Any spike casualties resulted in gaps in the grey, so I fixed with some more liquid suede throughout the day.
5 - Set the makeup with transparent powder and finishing spray! The liquid suede doesn't fully dry down, so this is quite important. I also dust over some shimmery green eyeshadow to extra highlight the scales and because I like shiny things. Add a wig and contacts and it's done! Phew!
I had such a fantastic time at MCM as Calianna!
I have to say it, the critical role community is the most welcoming, kindest, sweetest community I've ever had the joy to be a part of. I'm glad Calianna bright a few smiles from you guys, because you all gave me so many! I'd nearly smiled the scales off my chin at the end of the day.
Thanks to everyone I met, both old freinds and new, for helping me have such an amazing time!

"Can I write to you? Like, if we leave letters, can we be pen pals, Jester?" @xcolbert took some STUNNING photos of @nicole895c and I as Cali and Jester and I just had to share one of them before we get around to editing the rest 😍😭 (@sherlockhulmes @laurabaileyvo)
I did it! I finally did a makeup test! I might have gone a little overboard with the shimmer, but HOO BOY this was hard. Shading black is VERY DIFFICULT. Also I got some SFX silicone for this and that was also VERY DIFFICULT for a first time.
But things have been learned and hopefully they'll be better on Saturday, especially as I don't think I'll have time for another practice! Don't be like me guys, prepare better 😋🐍 So yep! I'll be at #mcmcomiccon Saturday only, as Calianna, with my face something like this. Excitement away!
