Who here celebrated St. Martin's Day last weekend? On Sunday the Rio Grande Valley German Club organized a traditional German St. Martin’s Day Parade for children and families living in Brownsville, South Texas as part of the initiative “Wunderbar Together – Germany and the U.S.” The parade route was illuminated by two hundred colorful, handmade lanterns and featured German singalongs. Partnering with the Carlotta K. Petrina Cultural Center and the Capable Kids Foundation, the RGV German Club hosted lantern making workshops in the weeks leading up to the parade, which concluded in Brownsville’s Edelstein Park. There, St. Martin himself passed out ‘Weckmänner,’ a sweet treat quite similar to Gingerbread Men, as well as hot chocolate. #stmartinsday#martinstag#brownsville#lanterns#parade
