What I've learned about riding my @giantbicycles around Houston:
1. Potholes & breaks in the road are worse than they appear.
2. When you wave at people, half of them wave back.
3. Brays Bayou is not as scenic, but is way less crowded.
4. The farther you ride, the farther you have to walk home with a flat tire.
5. Bridges are longer & taller than they look on Google Earth.
6. If I rode my bicycle as often as I drink beer, I'd be a better cyclist.
7. Don't ride on the bike path under 59 when the tents are set up.
8. @criticalmasshouston is an awesome way to see the city.
9. I support increasing the city's budget for streetsweepers.
10. Houston once had 17 different railroads in operation.
Missing Houston RN. This is a music appreciation post from the personal archives. I get so much inspiration from this album and how @travisscott blends styles so seemlessly. One day there will be a Sad Hawkins figure with a removable yellow raincoat. #sadhawkins#astrodome
Look at me. I'm holding the #astrodome ... which I found randomly when I went to a #houston grocery store for supplies. I didn't know it was still standing.
Where's General Admission?
ASTRODOME "II" VINYL UPDATE #3
Briefly, the production has not begun yet.
Although the factory confirmed that @hevisike (aka Jay Ackerman) paid all the production costs right after we posted about this subject for the first time a few weeks ago, the label still didn't gave them the final "ok" on the artwork for the production to actually begin. We have been trying to reach HeviSike in every possible and imaginable way for the past few weeks, but neither us or the factory have been able to get any answer whatsoever.
Knowing that PayPal have a refund policy with a limit date, it would be irresponsible of us to not inform you about the current status of this situation as soon as possible. Having all that said, we encourage you, if still possible, to ask for a refund, since all the communication attempts with HeviSike have totally failed, and our trust and faith on them to solve this issue has vanished.
There's nothing more we can do besides helping people get their money back, this lack of responsability is stealing our energy to move on.
Once again, we are deeply sorry about the entire situation, feel free to contact us as needed. #astrodome#astrodomeband#hevisike#hevisikerecords
Constructed in 1964, the Houston Astrodome was deemed the “Eighth Wonder of the World." As the world’s first indoor, air conditioned domed stadium, its 18-storeys represented an unprecedented shift in arena design. The Astrodome becam the eponymous first installation of the soon-to-be-known "Astroturf." The Astrodome was also the backdrop for the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match, where Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs, as well as for Evel Knievel’s world-record-setting jump in 1971.
Everyone from Judy Garland, to the Supremes, Elvis, Selena, and George Strait have performed at the Astrodome. Thousands of evacuees from New Orleans took refuge under its roof after Hurricane Katrina.
My father, who spent his earliest years in Houston, remembers the impact this stadium had on the surrounding city - and its unprecedented role in sports history.
Today, the Astrodome is being restored, thanks to the support of the Harris County Commissioners, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and scores of other advocates who ensured it wasn't destroyed. #houston#abandoned#astrodome#thisplacematters#stadium#indoorstadium#retractableroof#historicpreservation#texas
