is an opportunity to refocus people's attention to the plight of elephants around the globe. Elephants need to stop being seen as objects, for what they can offer us and instead be valued for who they are simply for being. For captive elephants this means recognizing that our goal should be to give back what was taken away from them many years ago. It is our responsibility to provide them with as close to a natural life as possible, allowing them once more to live like elephants. At this moment in time, this means sanctuary.

Mother ptarmigan with baby above an alpine lake in North Cascades National Park.. Always nice to get a wildlife shot that also includes the animal's natural habitat. There were 6 or 7 chicks in total and a curious one snuck up behind me while I took this photo.
Aftermath. Great Blue Heron______________
I debated posting this image because this heron is obviously hurt in some way on its neck. I don’t know what happened to him. He camped out at our lake for a number of days, often just standing for hours staring like this. I was worried at first and thought about calling Wildlife Inc Rehab here in Bradenton. But after the first day he started foraging a little and his injuries didn’t seem to worsen. And his neck moved normally. The second day, he began preening, showing that his neck had full movement. I kept an eye on him and he didn’t mind me checking on him. He was eating fine before he moved on. 🐟🎣 I like to think our little community lake gave him a place to recover. 👩🏼⚕️🤕👍🏻 SWIPE👈🏻👈🏻👈🏻 July 2018
I enjoy playing with profile portraits...there’s so many different ways you frame/crop an image when the subject is in profile. I still subscribe to “the more eyes the better” in art but profiles can evoke very different feelings. #elephant#animalportrait#bnwphotography
