I just trimmed one inch of bobbin thread off at the end of the seam - it had JUST lasted long enough! I hadn't even noticed it was running low... The #amesjeans are progressing nicely, braving the fly front today. #musingsofanoviceseamstress
I was only going to practice topstitching, check tension etc. but then I jumped right in and started sewing... Immensely excited to sew the #amesjeans ! My first go at making jeans and I feel like such a badass for even trying, but already I find myself constantly going "it's not perfect but..." So dear inner critic, shut up will you?! #musingsofanoviceseamstress
Here are some details on my #AmesJeans . Some lessons for next time--I would choose a higher quality zipper (this is Coats and Clark and it gets stuck easily) and one that matches the rivets and buttons more closely. This time I used what was at my disposal (JoAnn's, which has terrible zipper selection IMO). Next time I would probably order a kit. But the fly came together pretty well--as I mentioned in my previous post, @closetcase.patterns has a terrific sewalong for the Ginger Jeans and the fly section worked for the Ames pattern really well. You can also see my MERMAID POCKETS, which I love so much. Not only because of the unique design but because you would never ever ever find pockets like that in a store. They are a joyful reminder that I made these jeans! Which I need every once in a while because the topstitching very nearly undid me. I actually took my machine in to be serviced partway through this project because I thought there was something broken, when really it's more that topstitching is just difficult. You have the added pressure of making it look really good while sewing through a LOT of denim--I broke needles, I broke thread, I swore a lot. In hindsight, I would have picked a more muted color that would be forgiving of mistakes until I got the hang of it and maybe just used regular thread with a denim needle--I think my machine would have been happier. Thankfully the last step on this project was hammering in the button and rivets--you can really take out all that pent up frustration in a productive way 😁. All in all this is a great pattern and was a huge learning experience. I think I'm going to step back and do some simple projects as a palate cleanser, and then try another pair! If you have been nervous to try, I say give it a go--take your time, as they are definitely not a quick sew, but enjoy the steps and the new skills. Look for sewalong or YouTube tutorials if you're struggling with instructions. Ask questions on insta. You can do it!! @cashmerette #sewingjeans#sewyourown#curvysewing#memade#memadeeveryday#youcandoit
Sorry folks, it’s another basic AF me made may outfit 🤣 But this one comes with a question. What’s your favorite jeans pattern? I’m looking for something higher waisted and with a different fit than my Ames to mix it up a bit. I know I could hack but why not go the lazy route? I would super appreciate it if your suggestions accommodate a 52” hip 🦄 T-shirt: a #summerconcerttee from @dixiediy made ages ago, don’t remember where I got the fabric 🦄 @cashmerette patterns #amesjeans in an awesome allegro denim from @stonemountainfabric #stonemountainfabric 🦄 me made bra and undies makes four items for today 🦄 #curvysewing#sewcialists#handmadewardrobe#memadeeveryday#mmmay18#memademay#sewnwithlove#sewn

Happy day 10 of #mmmay18 , which I have now have burned in my brain because I wrote the 9th on all my sample bottles and had to re-label them ALL. Fun day. So yes, another pants day for field work, though I would have worn something more practical if I had known I was going to be stuck out there all day. Oh well, at least I was cute if I also had to be sweating my ass off 🤣 Jeans: @cashmerette patterns #amesjeans in a cone mills denim from @threadbarefabrics 🤣 T-shirt: @dixiediy #summerconcerttee in a rayon knit from @joann_stores 🤣 me-made undies and be for four total items 🤣 #sewn#sewing#curvysewing#curvyfashionista#ootd#memadeeveryday#sewcialists#handmadewardrobe
Today I had to wear pants to work even though it’s finally in the 80s... so here we are. Honestly, this is how I would prefer to be dressing most days so I really just need to make another pair of jeans and maybe a few tees too! This outfit is brought to you 100% by @cashmerette patterns 😍 Jeans: @cashmerette #amesjeans in the allegro denim from @stonemountainfabric (11/10, would (and have) bought again and again) 😍 T-shirt: @cashmerette patterns #cedardolmantop in a mystery stash knit 😍 me made undies and bra for four total me made items 😍 #cashmerettepatterns#stonemountainfabric#sewing#mmmay18#memademay#memadeeveryday#sewcialists#curvysewing
I made jeans! 👖😀 I’ve wanted to make my own jeans for ages, but despite collecting patterns and online classes, I was daunted by the whole idea.
Then I saw that @raystitch was running a jeans workshop taught by my favourite sewing teacher Penny. They offered the course with a choice of two patterns but I asked in advance if I could use the @cashmerette #amesjeans pattern as I thought it would need fewer adjustments for my figure (I’m very definitely a pear) and they agreed.
Making the jeans really wasn’t anything like as difficult as I’d thought it would be, but without the support of a class I probably wouldn’t have got started and, even if I had, I might well have given up long before they were finished.
They are not perfect... a little on the snug side (I can’t actually sit down in them), and the rise is too low for me... but, having gone through the process of making one pair, I could easily see what I need to change and have already altered the pattern ready for my next pair!
Pattern: #amesjeans from @cashmerette
Fabric: stretch denim from @guthrieghani (they don’t seem to have it on the website anymore but I bought it earlier this year at the Knitting & Stitching show at Olympia). #sewing#sewcialists#imademyjeans#sewingjeans
Handholding: @thevillageseamstress.wordpress at @raystitch
My last 3 makes were fabric from my stash, so that means I'm allowed to buy more fabric, right!? Got a lovely chambray tencel (destined for a skirt with a button placket - maybe the #rosariskirt or hack of the #emersoncroppants ). Also got some knit interfacing, a little boring, but Mood's price is much better than Joann's actually. I'd been given the suggestion to use knit interfacing in place of woven for a more relaxed look and I love it! Especially with this lovely tencel, don't want to ruin the drape with a stiff interfacing. And for all the rayon I've been/plan on working with, I want to keep a relaxed look so it doesn't look so abruptly different in drape with the facing or collar or sleeve cuff etc.
And lastly I got some denim samples.... denim is SO hard to shop for being short and curvy (and picky... lets be honest). My jeans won't last another season without some backup, so starting the search for the right fabric. I prefer a very dark wash and lots of stretch, like a jegging. I really like one of these, might be a contender. I'll probably end up using the #amesjeans pattern since @cashmerette has never let me down!

Did you know that you can sew your own jeans? You can!!! AND we have a class already on the schedule in August to help you do that! @lladybird will be coming here August 3 to walk you through the #gingerjeans or #amesjeans pattern. There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you’ve made your own jeans. Sign up today on the Classes page of our website. Don’t miss this opportunity! 👖👖👖 #pintuckandpurl#pintuckandpurlclasses#sewingmasterclass#sewingjeans
In a perfect example of some patterns just fit some people better than others. 1st pic: the back pattern piece for my #amesjeans . 2nd pic: back pattern piece for my #gingerjeans . Both great patterns, both fit well, but woah did I have to work harder for the gingers. #curvysewingcollective
New @lladybird-approved jeans kits! 👖🙌 We worked with Lauren to put together all her favorite jeans-making materials into one easy package! It’s exactly what you need for one of her Ginger Jeans workshops, but you could also use it for the #amesjeans or #ddsafran (just pick the option without the #gingerjeans pattern). It’s time to make some jeans, y’all!
The @closetcase.patterns “alternative waistband method” for sewing a jeans waistband is magic. I’ve never gotten the insides to look this perfect before. Also the genius (and now obvious) tip to start topstitching at the center back. Don’t know why it never occurred to me before. #amesjeans#jeansmaking#jeansjeansjeans#seattlesews
Did you see my latest post on @curvysewingcollective ? It’s a review of the #amesjeans with some fitting info! ・・・

I made jeans (not quite finished, but still)!! I have a good idea of the alterations I want to make, and after I finish up some quilts, I'll be ready to tackle my next pair! #amesjeans#cashmerettepatterns
