My #sewsaturday2018 fabric haul from @backstitchshop . Some of the amazing @atelierbrunette dazzle night snuggly sweatshirt, gorgeous blackest black stretch denim to attempt my first #amesjeans and L spotted this Michael Miller remnant called ‘to the moon and back’ so we had to buy that to make her and O some very special pyjama bottoms
#sewphotohop day 30: What's next?
After taking off nearly the entire month of September to regroup, I think I'm ready to get back to machines. The #quadrajeans that thread theory launched are going to be perfect for @willtubaforfood and I'm looking forward to making myself a pair of #landerpants and #amesjeans
Stay tuned 😁
I've just got the Ames jeans pattern back in stock as well as listing a bunch of bolt end remnants. Today I'm spending with my family and trying to refashion a size 18 prom dress into a size 10 outfit, fit for a mermaid. I'll be sharing some progress snaps in stories if you're curious.
Yesterday morning I decided I didn't want to wear a plain ol' Target t-shirt to see my husband's grandparents... Today. For various reasons* I have no nice tops in my wardrobe, so it became a race against the clock to make something.
Cue a @spotlightstores visit for this drapey spotted #tencel , @officeworks online submission then in-store pick-up for the @cashmerette #MontroseTop pattern (plan printing 🙌), pre-washing my fabric (of course), and eagerly awaiting the kids' bedtime so I could get crafting. A productive night, completed almost the whole thing, then finished hemming it about 20 minutes before we left this morning. I'm amazed and very, very pleased with how quickly this pattern goes together.
Considering I didn't do a muslin and have never made this one before (or any woven Cashmerette tops) I'm fairly happy with the fit. It's a little tight in some places depending on how I move (mostly upper chest if I push my shoulders back, and arms when I take it off, but that may be my fault or the fabric's fault, not necessarily the pattern). But it's definitely wearable, and 1000x more polished than every other top in my wardrobe. I also wore it with my #amesjeans (well, #amestrousers because they're cotton sateen not denim) because #handmade !
*I haven't made or worn a woven shirt in over 4 years thanks to pregnancy, nursing, weight gain, having a large bust anyway, and priorities. I also don't like buying clothes and know that store-bought tops almost always fit this busty lady badly. But I'm done having babies, I'm no longer nursing, I've found the holy grail of busty/curvy and plus-size sewing pattern companies (@cashmerette), and I'm starting to prioritise myself a little more these days. So maybe a few more of these will make their way into my wardrobe 😊
One day I will have a mirror in my dressing area. Today is not that day 🤷 please excuse the #bathroomselfie
Tired of not being able to find hiking pants that fit, so layered up my #jubashorts (tweaked to fit well this summer) and some pull on pants I like, and going to see if I can hack some out. Starting with a muslin in soft quilting cotton. If they turn out I can use them as pj pants. Going to also use my straight leg #amesjeans legs as a reference.
#makenine update: I have managed to make three of the planned patterns. I successfully made #amesjeans and I made an #uptondress both from #cashmerette . I also made the #dartmouthtop but I didn't like it. Nothing wrong with the pattern, it just wasn't "me". I bought a swimming costume so that is now ditched. I currently have changed my mind about the #tillyandthebuttons#cleodress and might stick with the one I have. I have made other things in between. Am still hoping to make at least 5 off my list!
The top is @inthefolds #collinstop made from random scraps around the house. Love the shape and construction but must remember to use the same fabric for the low back piece unless I want everyone looking at my at my butt. Which is very cute in my @cashmerette #amesjeans . Will definitely be making the top again, lengthening the front an inch or so and reducing the armscye by a couple inches. I’m also planning on making the sleeved version. This pattern has so many options!
✂️✂️ FINAL SPACE REMAINING!✂️✂️
JEANS! The ultimate wardrobe staple. Learn to make your own pair at our 2 day Jeans Workshop with @oldfashionedway. Next Sunday & Sunday 12th August - we have just 1 space left so be quick! You can choose from the @closetcase.patterns Ginger Jeans or the @cashmerette Ames Jeans and the pattern is included with the class ✂️✂️✂️
Y’all I did it! I hacked the @grainlinestudio #uniformtunic for a body it was not designed for — that is, a body above a 44” bust (which is even lower than most mainstream clothing brands’ upper limits... 🙄 come on...). Here’s what I did: I used the upper bodice and shoulders from the FABULOUS #montrosetop by @cashmerette (seriously cannot say enough good things about the fit and versatility of this incredible pattern, which was obviously designed for my body ❤️🙌) and the lower bodice and neckline from the #uniformtunic . I’m pretty thrilled with the final result, sewn in #robertkaufman#linen from @ewefibers. Speaking of EWE Fibers, if you’re local and you want help hacking this pattern, stop by and I’ll walk you through my process! Can’t wait to make the matching sweater in the fall... (oh and please excuse the wrinkles, photos were taken after a day at the shop).
What can I say, I'm a rebel 🤷 The instructions have the zipper shield made of the main fabric, but I wanted a little peekaboo of hamburger (my pocket lining) so I went with that instead.
Pear pelvis, straight leg version of the #amesjeans (well, trousers as I'm not using denim) by @cashmerette . Spotty cotton sateen from Tissatex, Montreal, QC waaaay back in 2013.
Is it a good idea? A bad idea? I don't know, but I'm going to do it. The @cashmerette #amesjeans but as trousers instead of jeans, using a cotton sateen I bought in Montreal... 5 years ago! 😲
I think I'll need to use an actual stretch denim (as the pattern says) at some point because the recovery will be better than the sateen. I've already made a skinny leg pair in a light tan/camel cotton sateen and they are a bit stretched out, not even 1 week old.
Today’s jeans photo... front and back basted together to check fit... not perfect, but better than my first pair and definitely wearable! 😀
I need to research what to do about the creases radiating at the front for my next pair (I don’t suppose there’s much I can do for this pair at this stage)...
It’ll be a couple of days before I get back to these now, so if anyone has any ideas in the meantime, let me know!

I just trimmed one inch of bobbin thread off at the end of the seam - it had JUST lasted long enough! I hadn't even noticed it was running low... The #amesjeans are progressing nicely, braving the fly front today. #musingsofanoviceseamstress
I was only going to practice topstitching, check tension etc. but then I jumped right in and started sewing... Immensely excited to sew the #amesjeans ! My first go at making jeans and I feel like such a badass for even trying, but already I find myself constantly going "it's not perfect but..." So dear inner critic, shut up will you?! #musingsofanoviceseamstress
Here are some details on my #AmesJeans . Some lessons for next time--I would choose a higher quality zipper (this is Coats and Clark and it gets stuck easily) and one that matches the rivets and buttons more closely. This time I used what was at my disposal (JoAnn's, which has terrible zipper selection IMO). Next time I would probably order a kit. But the fly came together pretty well--as I mentioned in my previous post, @closetcase.patterns has a terrific sewalong for the Ginger Jeans and the fly section worked for the Ames pattern really well. You can also see my MERMAID POCKETS, which I love so much. Not only because of the unique design but because you would never ever ever find pockets like that in a store. They are a joyful reminder that I made these jeans! Which I need every once in a while because the topstitching very nearly undid me. I actually took my machine in to be serviced partway through this project because I thought there was something broken, when really it's more that topstitching is just difficult. You have the added pressure of making it look really good while sewing through a LOT of denim--I broke needles, I broke thread, I swore a lot. In hindsight, I would have picked a more muted color that would be forgiving of mistakes until I got the hang of it and maybe just used regular thread with a denim needle--I think my machine would have been happier. Thankfully the last step on this project was hammering in the button and rivets--you can really take out all that pent up frustration in a productive way 😁. All in all this is a great pattern and was a huge learning experience. I think I'm going to step back and do some simple projects as a palate cleanser, and then try another pair! If you have been nervous to try, I say give it a go--take your time, as they are definitely not a quick sew, but enjoy the steps and the new skills. Look for sewalong or YouTube tutorials if you're struggling with instructions. Ask questions on insta. You can do it!! @cashmerette #sewingjeans#sewyourown#curvysewing#memade#memadeeveryday#youcandoit
Sorry folks, it’s another basic AF me made may outfit 🤣 But this one comes with a question. What’s your favorite jeans pattern? I’m looking for something higher waisted and with a different fit than my Ames to mix it up a bit. I know I could hack but why not go the lazy route? I would super appreciate it if your suggestions accommodate a 52” hip 🦄 T-shirt: a #summerconcerttee from @dixiediy made ages ago, don’t remember where I got the fabric 🦄 @cashmerette patterns #amesjeans in an awesome allegro denim from @stonemountainfabric #stonemountainfabric 🦄 me made bra and undies makes four items for today 🦄 #curvysewing#sewcialists#handmadewardrobe#memadeeveryday#mmmay18#memademay#sewnwithlove#sewn

it's been so fun to be able to provide all of these great denim fabrics for you, and the excitement over them has just been contagious! wrangling giant rolls of denim (swipe to the last pic!!) is no small feat, but it is made enjoyable by knowing that these fabrics are inspiring so many of you! .
Happy day 10 of #mmmay18 , which I have now have burned in my brain because I wrote the 9th on all my sample bottles and had to re-label them ALL. Fun day. So yes, another pants day for field work, though I would have worn something more practical if I had known I was going to be stuck out there all day. Oh well, at least I was cute if I also had to be sweating my ass off 🤣 Jeans: @cashmerette patterns #amesjeans in a cone mills denim from @threadbarefabrics 🤣 T-shirt: @dixiediy #summerconcerttee in a rayon knit from @joann_stores 🤣 me-made undies and be for four total items 🤣 #sewn#sewing#curvysewing#curvyfashionista#ootd#memadeeveryday#sewcialists#handmadewardrobe
Today I had to wear pants to work even though it’s finally in the 80s... so here we are. Honestly, this is how I would prefer to be dressing most days so I really just need to make another pair of jeans and maybe a few tees too! This outfit is brought to you 100% by @cashmerette patterns 😍 Jeans: @cashmerette #amesjeans in the allegro denim from @stonemountainfabric (11/10, would (and have) bought again and again) 😍 T-shirt: @cashmerette patterns #cedardolmantop in a mystery stash knit 😍 me made undies and bra for four total me made items 😍 #cashmerettepatterns#stonemountainfabric#sewing#mmmay18#memademay#memadeeveryday#sewcialists#curvysewing
I made jeans! 👖😀 I’ve wanted to make my own jeans for ages, but despite collecting patterns and online classes, I was daunted by the whole idea.
Then I saw that @raystitch was running a jeans workshop taught by my favourite sewing teacher Penny. They offered the course with a choice of two patterns but I asked in advance if I could use the @cashmerette #amesjeans pattern as I thought it would need fewer adjustments for my figure (I’m very definitely a pear) and they agreed.
Making the jeans really wasn’t anything like as difficult as I’d thought it would be, but without the support of a class I probably wouldn’t have got started and, even if I had, I might well have given up long before they were finished.
They are not perfect... a little on the snug side (I can’t actually sit down in them), and the rise is too low for me... but, having gone through the process of making one pair, I could easily see what I need to change and have already altered the pattern ready for my next pair!
Pattern: #amesjeans from @cashmerette
Fabric: stretch denim from @guthrieghani (they don’t seem to have it on the website anymore but I bought it earlier this year at the Knitting & Stitching show at Olympia). #sewing#sewcialists#imademyjeans#sewingjeans
