We are home! I’m glad I get to sleep on my bed tonight, but I’m also sad that this trip has ended. I had so much fun and got to see some of the places that have been on my bucket list.
This might sound cheesy, but at one point when I was standing with my son and husband looking out in the distance at Arches, I shed some tears. I felt so blessed to have been able to go on this trip. I felt overwhelmed by so many emotions.
Also, I kind of faced my fear of heights because where I was sitting on this picture was actually the edge of a cliff.
Hike 35 ✅🌿 This hike is rated as easy & is 3.2 miles but I only logged 3 miles on the @alltrails app because Harbor Park Trails are not actually completely paved yet. The park reopened late last year & since then restoration has slowed down. Today I seen a lady picking up plastic which was really cool & I seen some little kid take another’s kids scooter 🛴 & beat the shit out of it & then throw it in the water 😒 lol good times 👣🤙🏽❤️❤️🌿🌿🦎🦆💦 There is so much to #machadolake overall I’m always happy to see the ongoing development 👍🏼 Volunteer options are available here, as well as guided bird 🦅 watching tours & a lot of events coming up..I’ll share in my IG story ✌🏽#kenmalloyharborregionalpark

"The Search for reason ends at the known; on the immense expanse beyond it only the sense of the ineffable can glide. It alone knows the route to that which is remote from experience and understanding. Neither of them is amphibious: reason cannot go beyond the shore, and the sense of the ineffable is out of place where we measure, where we weigh. We do not leave the shore of the known in search of adventure or suspense or because of the failure of reason to answer our questions. We sail because our mind is like a fantastic seashell, and when applying our ear to its lips we hear a perpetual murmur from the waves beyond the shore. Citizens of two realms, we all must sustain a dual allegiance: we sense the ineffable in one realm, we name and exploit reality in another. Between the two we set up a system of references, but we can never fill the gap. They are as far and as close to each other as time and calendar, as violin and melody, as life and what lies beyond the last breath." Author: Abraham Joshua Heschel
I had a lot of shit to do this weekend, but a long hike up a mountain is my birthday gift to myself. It's honestly more than just exercise at this point, it feels like a ritual. Missing a weekend in the woods feels like missing sleep or a meal. If I disappear over the next couple of weeks, check the Appalachians.
Hike number 29, 11 miles along the Massanutten Trail to Signal Knob and Meneka Peak.
I could have sworn that I posted #hike39 of the #52hikechallenge earlier this week, but apparently I didn't. And now I've already deleted my writeup of the hike since I thought I'd posted it. 😢 So here's the new and improved version:
Grand Mere State Park: I do NOT recommend hiking there. Nope. Not worth your time. Don't do it. Nobody should bother. I mean, I'll do it if I have to, and I'll even post pictures so you know you aren't really missing anything. But everyone else should just go to Warren Dunes or Silver Beach or all those other places that are already crowded. You'll like those places better. Promise! 😁
Miles hiked: 7ish. I may have forgotten to start the tracker until about halfway through. 😯
People seen: about a dozen total, who I'm sure would all have been happier if they had joined the crowds at Warren Dunes or Silver Beach. Except the two who let me pet their dogs. I think they were just fine hiking Grand Mere. 🐕🐕🚶♀️🚶♀️
Dogs seen: three 🐶🐶🐶
Dogs petted: Two. 🐕🐕 Even though the second dog was shy at first, she wasn't about to miss out on the free scritches that her brother found so rewarding! 🐶😍🐶
Skinny swimming done: none, of course! Who would do such a thing, even with the warm sun shining, the water perfect, and the beach clear as far as you could see in every direction? Certainly not me. 😎
Knowing your limits ~ you all know me. I have completed the #52hikechallenge 3 times summited the 6 packs of peaks, climbed mountains / trails in Nevada, Utah and Idaho and Oregon but today I had to stop here because my body said so!! I have climbed #echomountain more then a handful of times to catch the sunrise and sunset but today for the life of me I just can’t go any further. I can’t blame it on the sun nor the weather. I can blame it on not being in shape but today I’m not going to put the blame on anything. Today I had to stop and enjoy the view from here ❤️ #knowingyourlimits#hiking For the 1st time in my hiking career I had to stop 🛑 evaluate myself and turnaround. I didn’t make it to the top 😢
