Day 6 & 7.
Day 6:show us your arm balance- going completely upside down scares me, so a foot on the wall is where I’m at right now.
Swipe for Day 7: why do I practice every day? It’s a video. And I’m talking to the camera. And I have no makeup on. So be nice - that was uncomfy for me but thankfully @amyoga111 doesn’t let me live in my comfort zone
Alright. Day 7 of #365amyogachallenge : why a daily practice. You'd think I'd have thought to put on makeup, do my hair, or even evaluate the camera angle, given my loathing of seeing myself speak on camera, BUT I didn't so here it is, raw and uncut. Swipe for the (definitely non-exhaustive) list of reasons. 😀
Posting on Friday for Thursday . . . Why do I do 365 yoga? Yoga is my life force. My sunshine on a cloudy day. My yes. My way to show up for me. My reminder to focus on my breath and this moment. #365amyogachallenge @amyoga111
What’s your fave and least favorite yoga pose? 🖤💀
Least fave: Dancer 💃 I used to feel so steady and like I could hold it all day. Since baby, it seems so “wide open” to me - super vulnerable and all weird and clenchy about my c section scar.
Current fave: Half moon 🌙 This one feels strong as hell. Now that I’ve found my core (😂), I love the grounding and openness all at once.
Funny how it’s constantly changing, right? Everyday I show up. Everyday the practice is the same. Everyday I am totally different.
The AM Yoga Challenge is a wrap, and I’m still catching up. Day 2: Show your favorite pose. Half Moon in my favorite places, Sleeping Bear Bay and Empire Bluffs Trail. The wind created an extra layer of challenge. I accepted and gave myself grace. And the beautiful thing was I half moon posed on a half moon phase day. #365amyogachallenge @amyoga111
Inspired by all my fellow @amyoga111 yogis. I love you all big time. YOU are one of the many reasons I want to get on my mat everyday. My AMazing teachers and all the other people in my life who help support me in my pursuit of a daily practice. Namaste. I honor you✨🖤
It’s much more than just poses... Yoga has carried me through one of the biggest life changes I have gone through. And while I am not ready to share that part of my story I will say this...I know I am capable of handling pain because I am capable of healing.
I am so grateful I learned how to show up on my mat just so I could heal my heart. 🙏🏼💞🧘🏽♀️ @amyoga111
Arm balance...crow has been scary but something I have been trying to get into. Finally, I realized I could at least get one leg off the ground and ease my way into it.
It’s all about the process. I have been letting go of the perfection. Much like realizing this picture captured my knee on my elbow and that’s not actually where it belongs. 😉💖🧘🏽♀️ @amyoga111
Show me where you yoga!
I am forever grateful for @ridiculousoptimism introducing me to this AMazing community!!! At a time when I was dealing with some pretty difficult stuff, I found myself surrounded by some of the most beautiful souls I have ever met. 🙏🏼 When I don’t get in studio, I love my den at home! It’s my peaceful space. 💞💖🧘🏽♀️ @amyoga111
Child’s pose. 😍
This is my favorite pose because as “easy” as it looks it took me almost an entire year before it came with ease. I would fight this pose so much for whatever reason. It could be because it didn’t seem challenging enough or I had to be still.
But, now when I find myself here I can breathe and actually connect with myself. I find myself in this pose often throughout my day...almost like okay here I am I surrender.
Which often doubles up as my intentional prayer time. 😍🧘🏽♀️ @amyoga111
I wasn’t going to do this challenge because I let a day pass which turned into 2...which turned into the entire week because I let myself get inside of my head.
But this is the exact reason why I needed to just give myself permission regardless of me being “late to the game”...it’s all about showing up.
So, here’s my FLOW! @amyoga111 thank you for allowing us to show up whether we are on time or 35 minutes late! 💖🙏🏼 #yoga#love#happiness#joy#gratitude#showup#365amyogachallenge#grateful#growth
Day 7: WHY A DAILY PRACTICE?
There are truly too many reasons to explain in 60 seconds.
Life. ✨✨✨ We get one life on this earth.
Don’t waste it or wish it away.
This practice lights me up and helps me dive into the people and things that matter to me.
Who wouldn’t want that? ✨✨✨
Why the hell do I practice yoga everyday?
If you hate listening, or you can’t turn sound on right now >>
I’ve been practicing everyday for other three years.
I got started because one of my teachers challenged me to practice everyday for 30 days and to then just see how I felt after those 30 days.
I did the 30 days, I’ll be honest, it wasn’t easy. But after I realized I felt better than I had in a long time. So I kept going!!
I yoga everyday because:
*feel connected to self
*easier to fall/stay asleep
*clear thought & focus
Besides the obvious physical health of working out everyday. 💪🏼
There are millions of ways to take care of yourself. Yoga makes sense for me because it takes care of me on a lot of levels. I like the bang for my buck.
Is there anything you do everyday for yourself? Coffee rituals, meditation, running, happy hour... Tell me below, what’s your thing?!👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Day 6 @amyoga111 #365amyogachallenge - Arm Balance!
Crane 💜 Working on the strength and balance transition to handstand. Still have a ways to go (and that’s okay 😊) Also 💜 eight angle pose... mostly because it involves elephant and well, elephants are awesome 😂
Day 6 of #365amyogachallenge : #armbalance
I already posted the other arm balances from my shoot with @modbettieportraits so I thought I'd use this opportunity to post the last one: #firefly . 🔥
One of my teachers told our class a great story about a firefly. It landed on her but wasn't lighting up. She told it it needed to light up, to show off its gift, so the world would know it's special. When it flew away without ever lighting up, she realized the things she said to the firefly weren't actually for the firefly. It was for her.
We bring our baggage, good and bad, to every moment of our lives. It shows up in how we treat each other and ourselves, in how we talk to each other and ourselves, how we act, how we make decisions, and what we think. We cannot cut off the strings of all that's come before to create us, but we can learn to recognize what we bring and why. And once we've had the opportunity to meet and get to know each piece of baggage in this way, we can see how, why, and what we are, which then shows us these things about others and the world as a whole. That level of knowing--of seeing--can eliminate anxiety and depression because, among other things, it enables the person to see their power and forgive where they've faltered. Imagine then, the inner peace that could bring. It just takes practice. Lots and lots of practice. . .
*Interesting afterthought: this discussion of her firefly story is a very different interpretation and pondering than when I first heard her tell it. Further evidence of how what we're bringing influences perspective and processing.
Day 6 of the #365AMYogaChallenge - Arm Balances! You know what's hard to do? Crow pose after 2 glasses of wine and a bowl of pasta with friends. But here it is anyway! This pose means a lot to me because I can remember the days when I stayed in deep squat, or tried the pose without lifting my toes off the ground over and over, until one day I could do it. If I can do crow, I can do anything! #AM3652018#yogaeverydamnday#crowpose @amyoga111
Day 6: ARM BALANCE
I love arm balances.
I love the challenge they present, the perspective they shift and the focus & thought they require.
They provide endless variations and possibility, keeping a practice that gives us great daily routine a never ending edge on the days we need it.
I extra love that they never fail to keep that good ol’ ego in check. ✅
But I especially love handstands with the best spotter alive. ✨✨✨ Swipe to see the most adorable commentary there ever was. “I’m so STRONG!” “I need to eat a chocolate first in my BED and then do YOGA.” 😳😂😍
#365amyogachallenge day 5: a pose that challenges you. 🐪
I used to love camel. And I used to dislike fish. Now, camel feels uncomfortable and fish never feels long enough. I'm constantly amazed at how quickly a body can change, whether it's a change we like or something we'd rather not deal with. 😉
And either way, that's why we practice.
Day 5 @amyoga111 #365amyogachallenge : Show Us a Pose that Challenges You
Revolved half moon! Brain says - okay, we can do this. Body says - lol, nope! 😂 Not with blocks or in socks, not in my house or with a mouse... 😋
And forearm wheel! Have actually made progress, but the shoulders and back are still a hard no.
If there is an open shoulder and thoracic spine struggle bus, I’d be a pretty good driver of said bus 😂
Show Us Your Favorite Arm Balance
I LOVE pincha pose but I haven’t practiced it in forever. (If you saw yesterday’s post you know why 😬)
Check me out today, winning hearts by flailing my legs in the air. Sometimes yoga be like that.
I really really wanted to show you guys something that looked really nice. And honestly I could’ve pulled up an old photo that DID look nice and y’all never would’ve known about this struggle bus.
BUT this is how yoga/life/everything works! If you don’t practice it, you lose it. That simple.
Just keeping it real with y’all.
And a little embarrassing.
Day 4 of #365amyogachallenge : show me where you practice. This is the future at-home practice spot 😍. We gutted our second story, converting a hallway and two rooms-- the master bedroom and my former yoga/ meditation room-- into one large loft bedroom. The northernmost part of the room will be the new, more spacious yoga space! My favorite practice location is @amyoga111's studio but I'm going to make this little space a close second. 😀
Day 5: Challenging Pose
Dhanurasana - Bow Pose
I’ve got plenty of reasons my mind & body resist this beautiful posture.
At the end of the day the particulars don’t matter.
What matters is that I notice the reasons, am comfortable sitting with them, and create equal amounts of breaking resistance & giving myself grace.
It’s daily effort that brings abundant ease & it’s worth every single moment.
Don’t mind me. Just playing catch-up.
Friday: Show your flow.
Thank you to my persistent wife @ridiculousoptimism for patiently guiding me down this path and the lovely humans @amyoga111 for encouraging me along the way.
Day: a pose that challenges you.
1. Flip Dog 2. Camel
The neck is released and open in both poses and I still struggle with that and still have some pain with it.
Camel is also a challenge bc I struggle finding the length in my spine. #yogachallenges
Day 🖐: show us a pose that challenges you
Chatufuckingranga. I feel weak & stuck. I do it as fast as I can to get it over with. In the past, I’d stubbornly refuse to use my knees & I’d make a shelf with my arms to rest my body on. But now using my knees helps to me feel strong.
Day 5: Show us a pose that challenges you.
FROG 🐸 POSE!
Speaks volumes about how much I resist this pose that I waited until the end of the evening to do it. I am aware that the energy I put into resisting, and holding back actually makes it more difficult... like so many things😜
Day 5 - Camel is the pose that challenges me most. It demands openness and vulnerability and I have a tendency to avoid all that.
Focus on my breath helps me make it through this pose and LIFE!
Also, HUGE shout out to the most generous yogis @shoedork and @kurrah - I LOVE MY FLEECE SO MUCH! .
Day 5 of the #365AMYogaChallenge is to show a pose that challenges you... Mine is F#!@ING Flip Dog. No matter how high I feel like I'm lifting my hips, this is what it looks like. And when people around me are transitioning from this pose to wheel and back, I'm over here feeling like my back is made out of cement and my shoulders never going to open in that way. Not to mention it's hard on my bad wrist. Sometimes I do child's pose this one out, but sometimes I AM a YES for flip dog. I am determined to get stronger in this pose. @amyoga111 #AM3652018#yogaeverydamnday#yogaisntalwaysbliss#flipdog#practice#notgraceful
Show Us A Pose That Challenges You
I’ve been balancing on my hands since I was a lil tot.
So when I got serious about my yoga practice in my 20’s I thought, “Abs, you used to be a gymnast. You SHOULD be better at handstands.”
Well, I’m not.
I got hips.
I have a mostly healed shoulder injury.
And I just plain don’t practice hand balances enough to be really good at them.
It’s highly likely that I don’t practice them enough because of that should statement I carry around in my back pocket.
The challenge here is not so much about strength or knowledge, though I could take more of both.
My challenge is my Own Damn Ego.
Now I’ve noticed.
Now I’ve got some power to fix it.
This is a combo 2 for 1 for the challenge because this is both outside AND where I practice! I can never and will never be able to give back everything this place has given me. This parking lot, this studio, these people they’ve seen me at my best and my worst and yet they keep letting me come back. (I also realize my foot is all out of alignment in tree pose but that’s as far as I could cram it with my docs on lol) @amyoga111 #365amyogachallenge
Day 4 of the #365AMYogaChallenge WHERE YOU PRACTICE -- obviously the best place is at the studio. It's bittersweet that this is today's post because typically Monday is my non-negotiable studio practice day but I'm not there because of the Elton John concert so I'm reposting some studio goodies. @amyoga111 #AM3652018#yogaeverydamnday#studioflow
Day 4️⃣: show us where you practice
My ✨favorite✨ place to practice is in Studio A at AM Yoga. Today I practiced on my lunch break so no time for a pic. 📸 Here’s one in my favorite place with my favorite people. 💛
Day 4 @amyoga111 #365amyogachallenge : Show Us Where You Practice
In front of the fireplace in sweatpants and socks. I’ve been called a poikilotherm more than once 😂 Working on the tight af shoulders and back today 🤦🏻♀️ Hoping for at least one more day of outdoors practice this year too! It’s Michigan, anything can happen!
Day 4: Show us where you practice!
Abundantly thankful for a solid home practice, especially with 2 littles to raise.
But if given the choice, @amyoga111 is haven, home and health for my heart & soul.
So is the woman posing with me and everyone else in my AM fAM. ✨✨✨
‘Show Us Where You Practice’
I practice literally all over the place, probably some places my friends wish I wouldn’t... like the middle of the street at 1 a.m.
But this is by far my favorite room to practice in. Preferably with a lot of pals too.
Day 3 of #365amyogachallenge = #yogaoutside ! .
This pose has brought a lot of lessons on taking things slow. This is the first time attempting the flip grip in several months after a shoulder thing showed up--again. I don't usually want to take things slow. I want to dive in head first doing mach 3! This year, my right shoulder, left knee, and possibly a hernia (! do women even get hernias?!) have forced me to start listening. So, in honoring the process, there was a significant amount of warm up time before the camera was even turned on tonight (I almost lost daylight for the shot! 😂), I stopped short of the foot with the second hand, and held back from kicking harder into deeper extension. 😕 I loathe holding back. But I loathe injuries more, so this is me finally getting the memo.
#amyoga111#amyoga365 @amyoga111 #outdooryoga#outdooryogi#yogaeveryday#yogaeverydamnday
I took a bunch of low quality video screenshots of me doing yoga outside... and then finally just asked a neighbor friend walking by to take a picture for me. In general, and with IG yoga, together is better.
Sunday: Show Us Yoga Outside
