"Story time... When I was, well I must’ve been about 9, my father was away and my mother was working hard and struggling to prepare us for a cold Oregon winter. We didn’t have two nickels to rub together, but somehow always managed, and as a kid you don’t really notice what it’s like to be without. The days were getting colder and a blessing came, this program called Operation Clothe a Child, chose 10 children like myself and took us each with $100 to go shop for winter clothes. I picked out socks and a jacket and warm pants and was excited, more than ever, to have such basic simple things. They told us once we’ve crossed everything off our needs list, we could use what few dollars were left to buy a toy. My chaperone was a thin small man who helped me get all I needed, at the end of our list I had $9 left to spend how I pleased. I was over the moon, elation couldn’t even begin to define me. There was one thing I’d wanted, a tamagotchi, the little digital pet you could take care of, but they were 20 bucks, and so I swallowed, and decided to settle for more socks knowing they would go a long way. When we got to the bus, I couldn’t have felt warmer, and we drove to the school where, from the parking lot, I would trudge home. I stepped off the bus and my chaperone handed me my things and wished me well, before I turned to leave, he handed me the tamagotchi, buying it with his own pocket money. I swear i welled up, he smiled gently and I shoved off. I have never, since that day, ever taken what I have for granted. I’ve had to give up some amazing things, things I’ve deeply loved in my life, all in order to better make room for what’s necessary. In the end I am always gifted the best of things, better options, routes, open doors and more. Thank you all for making 2018, a special and magnificent year.
We’ve left you a little Christmas Gift under our tree at the link in our bio... please, please enjoy it.
All my warmth to you and yours,
Elle-May and Christian Watson."
I sort of want to begin the process of “re-branding” myself. I‘ve always just been known as “a dude who designs stuff.” So, even though I’m simply a freelance artist, it might be cool to actually get working with some actual options of a personal brand.
Morning light at Skogafoss. ✨ Tired of seeing my photos from Iceland yet? 🙈 I’ve never come back from a trip with this many photos I absolutely love, but Iceland is one of those incredible places with beauty everywhere you look. I promise, I’ll stop the spam soon.
Introducing the new symbol of Brenton P. Clarke. I’m very excited to share this. Designed and hand-rendered by the legendary Mr. Christian Watson of @1924us , this logo will serve as the main motif of my upcoming senior collection. -
Along with the incredible passion for their work, what initially drew me to @1924us was their emphasis of traditional techniques. After discovering them through Mr. Mike Rubin’s fantastic menswear label, @krammerstoudt, I was immediately intrigued by the “imperfectly perfect” quality of their work. Over the past several months, I was lucky enough to work with Mr. Watson to develop what I believe to be the perfect embodiment of my concept. -
There is still more to come. ✌🏼

Our latest project for @aleandbread. My work has developed from a very rough and minimal perspective of art/design. What initially inspired me as a designer was the purpose of architecture and its influence on us as people when we inhabit residential spaces, it quickly progressed into color theory - why we’re impacted by shades and light. Then it was tattoos, old Russian style prison tattoos that were meant to explain why a criminal was sentenced and what for, true design tells a story and does it well. In the last year I’ve focused on bringing those foundations into a more Art Deco style of design, functional but fanciful, wholly still conveying as simple a message as I can. All of it since the beginning has been done by hand and it’s such a joy to see my own work progress in ways I never imagined.
We had many branding requests for this coming year, and we’re happy to welcome a few more so if you’d like us to help you no matter what the business please reach out! Info@1924.us

Antiques have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, they’ve done everything from influencing how I see and live in the world, to how I build within it as well. 1924 has grown rapidly in the last years as a business, and it started out as a hobby, an ode to the American dream of working hard enough to achieve what you’re after. We’ve taken that dream and turned it into something international, it’s moved and now based in Australia. Elle and I are movers, constantly trying to build ourselves and outwardly in places that deeply inspire us. To everyone who has purchased a physical product from the shop thank you, currently, our container is in Australia being sorted through customs! We plan to have these goods in the next few weeks to begin shipping out, if instead you prefer a refund please reach out and let us know and we will take care of you tout suite!
To everyone who has supported us on the digital arts side of things, both in design and photography, thank you. You have made a massive difference in our lives this year! We will soon be sending out a Christmas gift to everyone who is on our newsletter, or whose email we have via our orders from the site in recent days, we’ve been working hard on it to make sure it’s something useful and beautiful for all of you. Thank you!
We are also doing a little Q and A in our stories if you’d like to let us know anything you’d love to see from 1924 in 2019!
All our love, warmest regards, welcome aboard and venture Onward from the 1924 family!
When @1924us visited Ammanford.
Christian Watson and Elle May (@ellemaywatson), the talented creative duo behind the brand workshop @1924us visited the Roastery a few weeks back on their whistle stop tour of the UK. It was wonderful to meet the people we’ve worked so closely with to develop our Roastery branding. They travelled half way around the world to see their finished work on the walls and that’s something we’ll not forget in a hurry.
The latest font from the 1924 design studio is a completely hand-rendered one, heavily inspired by Japan’s old culture, original Western films, and our friends at @clutchmagazinejapan who have been a big part of the 1924 life since our inception some 8 years ago.
This marks my fifth created font! We sell each one for only 10 dollars, making them as accessible as we can for the work that goes into each one. This font features all uppercase lettering, special characters and unique kerning that give it a very cinematic presence.
Our Christmas gift will be sent out soon, but any digital order in the next week will receive access to it sooner if you sign up for our newsletter!
Thank you all for the support and love you’ve given us, the branding tutorial, textures, fonts and presets are all still very much available at the link in our profile!
So much thinking this morning. Loss is strong on my mind. Loss of a wonderful relative recently, loss of a great new friend that's moving, loss of my great new apartment due to unforeseen circumstances, but loss of myself most. It's been 5 years since Dale left, and I'm still not myself. I've been a ghost of who I was and still most days feel like I don't even know who I am. I've tried so many paths since then, in trying to find my way. What was, is never coming back, and that's a bittersweet reality.
But, I thankfully have my feet planted firmly on the ground. I have wonderful people in my life. I have a great job, a roof over my head, and a fairly good outlook. I'll never be THAT Tonya again. I have to be okay with that. But you know what? I have to believe there's a chance that something better is around the corner. And THAT hope is what tells me that things are going to be okay ❤️
As holiday season rolls right up on us it’s only natural we use it as a pointed marker for reflection on the year past. And this one has been big to say the very least!
Trying to list all of the things we’ve done, places we’ve seen, obstacles overcome and accomplishments made for any of our lives would be in itself an overwhelming task! Sometimes it’s important to just take a moment of silent appreciation to look back briefly and look ahead with eager anticipation for those things to come.
I am most excited about the work coming this next year and finding permanency in Australia, what are you most looking forward to?
Oh! And Elle and I have a Christmas gift for all of you in a few days, literally free goodies from us so look forward to it! It’s a thank you for all the hard work and support YOU have put into making 1924 the great community it’s been the last 8 years for us.
Looking forward to year 9!
Also, I just kind of feel like a Christmas Cherub in this photo so, that’s what ya get!
Experiencing snowfall in Mt. Baldy is always a treat ☃️ Huge shoutout to @panasonicgh5 for holding up so well in the snow!! I also couldn’t believe how incredibly well my #mavicpro @djiglobal operated! If anyone is looking into purchasing a video camera or drone, I would easily recommend them... When I started out 8 years ago drawing for brands I never had an idea that it would grow into what 1924 is today. To work with the most incredible, talented, leaders and learners of not just this industry, but so many has been completely inspirational. I’ve also been surrounded and supported by people whose warmth I never earned or deserved, and even at times, was ungrateful for. Looking back, I can see so clearly the mistakes I’ve made along the way to where I am now, and I can imagine just how many more I’ll make moving forward. You can’t get anywhere in life without a little precaution, and a little bit of throwing caution to the wind, but absolute recklessness (especially towards others) doesn’t breed any kind of success worth any value. Negativity is never something we should thrive off of, dramatics and put-downs get passed off as “jokes” and “edgy” but at their foundation they too don’t have any value. I wouldn’t be who or where I am without the thoughtful support from so many who have given me every benefit of the doubt, especially Elle-May who has been there as I’ve blossomed into who I’m becoming. Nothing in this life needs to be “put on” as a way of perseverance, be who you genuinely are at your root should dictate which direction you’re headed. In all of us I believe that root to be drenched in kindness, both towards friends and family as well as strangers and people we deem our enemies. The greatest threat to our character is our lack of action in moments begging for it, and our overreaction during moments of peace. We get closer and closer to this day every day, and I hope we all arrive - no matter how unprepared - willing, and the best versions of ourselves.
Thank you, to everyone who has supported me in the last few years, and the last few months as well. It means infinitely more than I can let you know.
If you’ve never packed your whole life into a box and changed every comfortable aspect of your life for the unknown, I suggest doing it.
We live in a time where traveling is easier than ever, or more accessible I should say, and I’d highly attest to its importance. In life, we have to cull a lot of things, even the good things, even things we once loved, in order to move forward and grow. And naming Forth couldn’t have been more apt for the situation we found ourselves in just a couple months ago when we sent him off to his new home. We’ve been to so many countries this year, and struggled to learn what it’s like to share in new cultures, to experience firsthand the perspective of someone that wasn’t just us. I think it can be easy to live in a way where the yoke of consequence doesn’t burden us because we’re so inwardly focused.
But in love, the yoke of everything is shared and it makes relations so compelling.
Elle has been the very best friend in my life, the very best. I’m here now, thousands of miles from my birth family, the home I knew and the comforts of a cold December. But with a warm holiday, a new pup, new family and new challenges, I feel younger and more called to live this life best I can. I feel a sense of urgency that is refreshing, a sense of impermanence that allows every moment its worth.
Thanks for watching the story unfold with us.
The Branding Tutorial is finally finished. It’s an hour and a half movie about 1924’s brands inception, a brief history of branding and importance, a comprehensive gear list, how we get inspired, brand message, how we communicate with our clients, how we convert our drawings from pen and paper to digital goods and how we export. It’s a long listen that sounds more like a conversation than a lecture. You’ll also receive a PDF with chapter times, gear list and brief introductions of each section. This goes out to hundreds of you first thing today, so if you’ve purchased thank you! If you haven’t you can go get it on our site!
We aren’t including any other assets like fonts or textures with it because this is legitimately the full process of how we work, all my secrets, and it’s only $30. I remember being younger and wishing I had a lot of mentorship along the way, the amount of you that have asked me for help or advice has been staggering and it’s been nearly impossible to individually respond to, so I hope this makes up for it! Thank you to all the people who bought it as well for their loved ones, you can do that too by getting our gift cards in the shop!
Tomorrow, this will be $50 USD. Thank you again! And I can’t wait to hear your feedback.
