Today I ran one mile. That's nothing compared to the half marathons, the 20 mile training runs, the marathons where everything died (except my spirit). But this was the first mile of getting back to the me who loved to run, who challenged herself, and who believed she could truly do anything she wanted to. Captured this pic of my favorite part of this trail today - a large stretch of beautiful bamboo trees! Made me feel like I was hiking through a rainforest. Had a good run this morning, but also a tough run. Been dealing with this throbbing to my left outside quad that started last week. Had to stop at the last few miles to do a self massage. Other than that had a decent adage time. Was happy with it especially after yesterday’s ride. Started out at a 10:15 pace and finished with a 9:27 pace. Bodybuilding has given me so much that I have never had before. My health has improved tremendously in just about every area, I’m the strongest I have ever been, I rarely find myself injured, and my self-confidence is the highest it’s ever been in my life as well as my body image. But there are still days I miss running. There will always be that little pang when I drive by a group of runners or someone running solo out on a back road. I miss that runner’s high you can only get from finishing up a long run or hard training session. Strength training gives a different high—I’ve learned to love that one on an equal level and am truly grateful to have something in my life I can turn to in order to find direction, teach me self-discipline, flip my mindset around when I’m having a shit day, or simply put my heart at ease when nothing else can 💗
Got in 10 soggy, hilly, buggy and beautiful miles this morning at the Waterfall Glen Extreme 10! It wasn’t pretty but got it done. Sometimes I have to remind myself that every race doesn’t need to be a PR, feel good or even hit your goal time. 10 miles with the BEST Dad Coach in the 🌎 I went out a little too fast 💨 but ran into a lot of other happy runners on the trail that kept me going to the end. Also, seeing my Dad every 3 miles kept me entertained and hydrated. He told everyone we saw that I “couldn’t do it without him,” and he’s totally right 👨👧 .
So happy to run today! Only my 4th run in 5 weeks since my #10miler due to angry hip/IT and some not very pleasant health issues going on. I have been doing HIIT workouts, but only 1-2 times/week.
