Every single muscle of my body is aching, and I've got plenty of cuts and scratches on my legs, but yesterday myself and 14 other colleagues from @4complc did something amazing by completing @tough_mudder in aid of @thedcf.
It was indeed very muddy and very tough. While I can run 10 miles no problem, I have very little upper body strength, which was a huge problem for some of the obstacles. However we all helped each other to get round in just over 4 hours.

Was able to run through the next phase of homes opening near us. Can't wait till it's paved. My next half marathon is less than 2 days away. Tonight's #10mile was good. I think I'm going to be okay. 😁🤣😅😑😉
So a weekend of over indulgence and I thought, a run will fix it. I’m not the fastest runner, I have a 56:12 PB on 10k and 25:25 for 5k, both from earlier in 2018. Unfortunately the snow called off a 10k in March where I was gunning for sun 55 and in better race shape. Constantly striving for better I did the York 10k last weekend in hot conditions, 56:38. I’m the type of runner who needs a race to train for to keep focus so I am now aiming for a 10 mile event in October. Frustratingly, work has got in the way for the last 6 months and my run fitness dropped. I have struggled to get it back as easy as I found in the winter - the humidity has been killing me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀This morning I wanted to brush off the prosecco-webs and take advantage of a pancake flat Cambridge before heading back north to Leeds which is stupidly hilly. 1km in and Strava is telling me I’ve done a 6:45 min kilometre. I’ve not run that slow for a while so I automatically got annoyed - I felt I was running faster than I clearly was, or was Strava messing with me 🤔 I clawed the 5k back to 29:35 but there was a bit of stop starting. I find it hard to deal with runs like this - just 2 days prior I did a 46 min 8km and felt much more comfortable. It puts me on a downer and feel like I’m not making the progress I’m putting the effort in for. Considering I run for my mental health it’s a bit counter-productive. However, I have to remind myself that any training run/work out is better than the one I didn’t do! The next couple of days will be a bit of speed work and a HIIT workout to focus on building some strength in my legs. Time: long enough for me to question my sanity for running through 10 miles of ice water, electric shocks, and some of the most physically taxing obstacles I’ve ever experienced.
A healthy work-life balance is very important. ⠀
Last month I took part in the ‘Tough Mudder 5mile’. I wanted to push myself, try new things with the support of a great team. It was a great experience. 10mile next year!⠀
Sunday runday / Sunday funday 😂 today I’ve been for a slow 40 minute jog to get a few miles in then went climbing 💪 followed up by some homemade pizzas made for a lovely day! Running will be increasing from now on as we’re getting closer to the #york10mile race in October 🙈 wish me luck! 🍀 what have you done this weekend?
Really happy with today’s run. After missing my long run yesterday due to hubby’s graduation celebrations the night before, I decided to turn my VMA 10 mile race into my long run.
