Hexies are back in action again! This week’s theme is nautical hexies. The encyclopedia, the book, and a laundry bag my son used for a handcart trek is about as nautical as I can get. 😂😂 I didn’t even find ocean or fish fabric in my stash. #100hexies100days2018
Day 48 #100hexies100days2018 Theme Nautical This little boat on to days hexie made me think of Thor Heyerdahl and his curiosity and his way to find out things. This boat is Ra 2. Built of papyrus from Lake Titicaca. Thor Heyerdahl used it to travel from Morocco to Barbados. He wanted to demostrate that people could travel over long distances from early times. Ra 2 are now at the Kon-Tiki museum in Oslo ,Norway #kontikimuseum#kontikimuseet#thorheyerdahl#hexies#hexiechallenge#epp
So the illustrations look like they’re a stretch for the #100hexies100days2018 nautical theme, but it’s a boat sandwich! This was a favorite book of mine when I was little. I think I received it as a Christmas present from England from one of my great aunts and uncles or my great grandmother. My grandmother let me cook recipes from this book and create my own as well- I can honestly say that fried pickles might be good, but fried cucumbers are NOT! Vintage cookbooks (and new ones) go so well with aprons 😁 Day 48/💯 #hexies#nautical#hexiefun#sewing#cooking#cookbook#cookingwithkids#makersgonnamake#sewersofinstagram
So Kipper wasn’t around when I was little, but he’s been a favorite of mine with my boys. We had a Kipper party for my youngest son’s 2nd birthday. I love the books and the videos, and I love Wibbly Pig too - Mick Inkpen in general. Anytime I hear Martin Clunes’ voice I picture Kipper 😝 I know all the words to the theme song too 😄 These little sailboats make me think of toy boats that Kipper and Tiger might play with in a pond or a puddle. Day 47 #100hexies100days2018 Theme Nautical. To day is about compass and to know where you are ... I can’t say that Leiv Erikson didn’t have a compass, but he went wrong when he travled from Greenlant going to Norway. He had several stops before he settled down in what he named «Vinland» , Newfoundland. He and his crew were the first Europeans who settled in America , about the year 1000 This statue of him stands in St. Paul , Minnesota. Photo 2 is the travel route and a photo of a paiting made by Christian Krog of how he think the discovery was 😊#leiverikson#christiankrogh#hexies#hexiechallenge#epp
#100hexies100days2018 nautical week. 47,48,49 all come at the same time. Swipe to see second pic. The three hexies represent the many sunsets my husband and I watched while on our 25’ Catalina sailboat. The patch attached came to us when we bought the boat. This seemed a perfect place for it. It is true the two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it, and the day you sell it. But we had lots of fun on that boat.
