(Japanese txt below)
This time, I visited this place “子規庵(Shikian)” on Oct 14th as one of the destinations of the stamp rally event “Good day 入谷(Iriya)”.
The place, “子規庵(Shikian)” is a former residence of “正岡子規(Shiki Masaoka)” who is one of the greatest poets in Japan in Meiji period.
He is also known as one of the greatest men who affected on modern literature in Japan in Meiji period due to his contributions to innovation in Classic style of Japanese poetry.
If you read the description above about him, you might have believed his life must be full of happy. But that is not correct. In fact, he is just basically weak. And he died of tuberculosis(TB) at the young age, 34 years old.😭
According to his diary and the record at that time, after he got tuberculosis at around 28years old, in this place, he had continued to write new poems and essays and to coach new poets until he died in 1901.
After entering into this residence, I first felt nostalgia and loneliness, the former is from its old Japanese style architecture and the latter is from the contrast of the inside and outside. Actually I planed to stay here so long, but after all as these feeling made me do this, I sat on the tatami in the room for about 30min, looking at the view of the backyard like day dreaming.
For the first photo, I tried to take it from the position laying on the floor in a study and bed room as Shiki Masaoka did when living here with tuberculosis😷.
