Did you know that this is one of the filming locations of game of thrones? 😀
This is our National Park Þingvellir on Sunday night 😍 📷: @chiara.fabienne.photography on our Northern Lights Bus Classic Tour ♡
Touching both north american and eurasian tectonic plates at the same time while dry suit scuba diving in the Mid-Atlantic ridge at Silfra, Iceland.
The fissure of the earth where both tectonic plates are literally tearing apart from one another and the crevasse is filled with glacier water that's filtered through volcanic rock for a hundred years - Thanks @dive.is for organizing the dives 🙏
I just get the pictures of my experience snorkelling at Silfra, Þingvellir national park.
Silfra fissure is a newly opened rift between the North America and Eurasian tectonic plates which grows about 2cm each year, thus you are basically snorkelling between 2 continental plates.
It is also have the world clearest fresh water with the longest visibility, thanks to the very long filtration of water originating from Langjökull glacier (60km north)...it can take up to a century for the water to reach Silfra!
Just don't forget to drink the cleanest fresh spring water in the world whilst you snorkelling in it!😅 #Silfra#snorkelling#Langjökull#Þingvellir#Iceland 🇮🇸
Þingvellir National Park is a bit of a geologist's wonderland. Located on Iceland's western volcanic zone, it is argued to be straddling the boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates. Here, the rift faults split open a gorgeous basaltic lava sequence of inflated sheet lobes. It's also a place of deep historical significance, having been the gathering site of Iceland traditional parliament throughout the Middle Ages. Also, Iceland is ridiculously beautiful you guys #Thingvellir#Þingvellir#iceland#platetectonics#geology
