“You can bring a horse to water, but by f@ck you can’t make it drink it”
(My gcse physics teacher 1998, I’m sure he made that up )
Ladies and gentlemen I give you my brother, the lad in the video attempting what should be split jumps but what can only be described as some sorta 80s retro dance, Jimmy Summerville esque 😂 🕺
Procrastination!!! here we go another pt slabbering about getting up and doing stuff.
Well you might be right, but bare with me.
We all have days when you wake up and “couldn’t be assed”
sometimes a cup of coffee is the answer other times a good kick up the proverbial butt is needed to get the shit done that’s needed to be done.. Today for me was one of those. As part of my marathon training I had 11mile run pencilled into my program. Last client of the morning finished and I had six hour window to knock it out.
Five hours later I eventually finished.
So what happened?
After my last client I sat about doing bits of mobility work lost track of time and realised I was hungry.
I ate some food, now I’m going to have to wait to let the food settle.
Done a few msgs whilst waiting then got too tired.
Excuse no 4
Had a snooze woke up and it was too wet. Thought I’ll just do a gym session.
Whilst setting up the gym session the realisation hit me. Shut the f@ck up, stop being a woose and do it.
And damn I’m glad I did. Getting things you’ve planned to do done takes excess pressure of your mind.. even better when that happens to be jogging on the open road.
Running gives you that freedom and release that only those who run truly understand. Don’t get me wrong I love a good old iron pump in the gym as much as the next but the freedom of just setting out on the road with each worry dwindling as the miles pass by is as euphoric as it is self motivating, knowing you have the ability to do it.
I am a firm advocate of strength training for all genders and populations from sport reasons to general weight loss and everything in between, but I would never dismiss the affect running can have on you mentally as well as physically depending on your goals..
In moderation and the right care and procedures taken place running is a great form of exercise..
Locally we are lucky to have great clubs such as @omaghharriers @carmenrunnersac @kcrunners @knockmanyrunners to name a few so anyone wanting to take it up don’t hesitate any longer get the trainers on and if you want that extra push give one of these a shout, you’ll not be disappointed.
After a debaucherous weekend of sinking shots and nailing whiskeys, ‘twas good to get back to the right side of the bar today and back on track with training.. I had the pleasure of attending two weddings at the weekend.
To say both wedding parties and guests alike knew how to party was an understatement.
Being a plus one at both I was unsure of how I would be greeted. I was accepted with open arms at both and for that I am truly grateful. So thank you to both Stevie & Catherine on Friday and Paul & Donna on Saturday and of course @lalamccullagh for the invite.. Back to the grind and back to training today.
Life is about finding the perfect balance and not letting anything or anyone control that.
Work hard for your goals yes but also know how to let your hair down once and a while and not let your goal take over your life. If this involves sinking shots with mates well then sink shots with mates but just remember how to get back on the right track and get the hard work done.. Any advice for sore shoulders that doesn’t involve sinking shots? 🤢😜. #workhardplayhard#fitfam#dublinmarathon#sinkingshots#shoulderpress#letyourhairdown
Days like these (yes the sun is shining at last, barely any clouds in the sky and everyone is happy?) it is very easy to say “f@ck it” and drop everything to lounge about the nearest beach or lake....
And yes I am definitely an advocate for this. Not too often we get heat like this in our we island so when it comes embrace it and make the most of it..
Important shit still needs done though, procrastinating and delaying due to hotter than norm temperatures won’t make you feel any better once the rain shows its ugly head again.
Set your plan, get what needs done done and enjoy this lovely spell and maybe a wee ice cream or two.
The video shows @kris7lowe @dgnswifts who came to me to build on leg strength and power then execute that power on the football pitch.
He got it done early and the day was his 😀.
Irish league season is only round the corner so good luck with preseason and the start of the new one.
