“Dance, Dance, where ever you may be...” Checked out the remnants of an old Shaker community in Mount Lebanon, NY. The Shakers were founded by Ann Lee in 1774. They believed society could be perfected and the earth turned into paradise through communal living, gender and racial equality, pacifism, confession of sin, celibacy, and separation from the world. They worshipped with their own unique songs and dances, and brought spiritual practice into their everyday tasks. In an age where many Christian communities were stern and oppressive, the Shakers were remarkably different. We could learn a lot from them today through some of their beliefs.
