Sublime- Eponymous- 1996 "April 29th, 1992 there was a riot on the streets tell me where were you? You were sitting home watching your t.v. while I was participating in some anarchy." Wow, this was released 20 years ago. I've come to think of this album as one of the bastard children of London Calling. It's a blend of genres that define rebel music yet refine it into this happy, celebratory form with a bittersweet tinge. Sublime is one of those great musical what ifs. What more could they have done? How much further could they have shaped the culture? This final document is a SoCal masterpiece. I don't even want to say anything else about it, if you've never listened to it- then this needs to be part of your summer experience starting now- get on it.
I have fun memories of this one from being a kid when I first started hanging out with Mark Brown @puck_marrone & Eric Smith @nappyjohnson. This album was the soundtrack to a years worth of wonderful shenanigans which included long late nights, calabash chicken, runaway microphones, & cow tongues in toilets to name a few things among a long list of sins committed. This along with 40 oz to Freedom & Blood Sugar Sex Magick were a few of the only records our motley clique of characters could all agree on, but Sublime in particular never really left the rotation. We'd cruise around in Eric's smoke free white escort with the moon roof down & roll up to someone else's house & they'd be playing it too. It was instant classic. And unlike a few of the other things we were on back in the day, this one still holds up strong.
When desperate times call for desperate measures..thanks to @999kisw you end up posting your very first selfie, cause thems the rules boss.
No dice on the SG & PJ fan club presale, & the line at the Paramount box office is already a block long several hours before tickets are even available. Don't even get me started on the Ticketmaster debacle... THEN oh THEN my mother whom I love & I bribed & I enlisted into online help ironically & coincidently informed me they added another instantly second sold out show while I was making dungeon master like attempts to secure our way into show numero uno.... big...BIG sighs.... So I make my appeal to the Rock n Roll Halls of the Twin Toasters. In the words of one great galactic princess, @999kisw - you're my only hope.
