Expedition: A Transition Center. My Thesis Project was focused on homeless youth living in San Diego and creating a drop-in center Downtown SD that would provide roadmapping services run by volunteers in order to guide homeless youth to a better future. Here is all of my HARD WORK through BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS last 15 weeks. It was a pain to produce, but had fun in the process. @designinstituteofsandiego

Congratulations to #DISD student @arnaz_the_designer and her fellow classmates! They presented their Senior Projects today in front of a jury of industry professionals and their peers. It has been an absolute pleasure watching these students blossom into such talented interior designers these past few years. 👏🏽

Had a tiny visitor wandering the halls of our admin building today. Scooped him up to bring him back outdoors, but he seemed content hanging in our DI coffee mug. Maybe he wanted a tour of the campus?

“My senior year of high school I made the decision to pursue a career as an interior designer. I researched schools all over the country and DI by far stood out the most. Over the next 5 years I took all of my GE classes at community college, worked, saved money and finally made it to San Diego to pursue my dream.” - #DISD student Adriana Taylor (@no.adriana.taylor) when asked what led her to DISD #StudentsofDISD

Judgement time - 👩🏼‍🎨 - no fear here.
Thanks to these lovely ladies the Viungo Culinary Hotel design was a hit! Group projects can be such a challenge, but a great way to split up a massive workload. Thanks ladies!

“I love creating concepts. Many people when decorating their house turn to Pinterest, Instagram, magazines, and/or well known furniture stores and simply copy or mimic the design. I like using something non-interior design or architecture related such as a beetle or train and use that as the inspiration. By studying the object's every attribute and applying what you find to interior design, you can truly make something unique and beautiful. The concept slowly evolves into how you want the space to feel rather than simply what it will look like. From the concept, fabrics, furniture, fixtures, colors, textures, as well as many other facets of design are carefully picked and thoroughly thought out which in the end perfectly work together. A strong concept can lead to an extraordinary design.” - #DISD student Chelsea Metheny (@chelseametheny), when asked what her favorite aspect of interior design is. #StudentsofDISD

“I was at a time in my life when I needed a change. I had a career as a military officer and defense engineer, which I left to be a stay-at-home mom for almost a decade. I was ready to go back to work, but a recent diagnosis of PTSD from my military service meant my previous path and degrees weren’t useful to me. I did a lot of soul searching to figure out what I should do. Interior design seemed like a stretch because it is so different from anything I’d ever done, but it felt right. When all the pieces fell into place for me when I applied, I knew I had found my new path.” - #DISD student Suchada Eickmeyer (@suchadadesigns), when asked what led her to DISD #StudentsofDISD
