Just after 1845hrs, the San Antonio Central Fire Alarm Office started receiving multiple calls of a structure fire in the area of Wetmore Rd & Thousand Oaks Drive on the cities Far North side. Multiple responding companies reported extremely thick, heavy black smoke on the horizon prompting Battalion Chief 7-0 to preemptively request a 2nd alarm. Engine Company No. 39 arrived to find the source of the heavy smoke to be discarded building supplies and equipment in a vacant lot and advised all incoming companies that they would be in a defensive posture, pulling a 2.5” preconnect, and downgraded the 2nd Alarm fire back to a Box Alarm assignment. Engine Co. 14 and Ladder Co. 14 were next in and were promptly put to work tagging a hydrant and putting their aerial main to work on the alpha side. Command informed the next in truck to take up the Bravo side and for the next in engine company to lay their own supply line as water pressure in the area was poor. Ladder Co. 40 thew their aerial for defensive operations while Engine 40 tagged a hydrant. Battalion Chief 7-0 arrived on scene and quickly requested a platform-ladder as access was poor to the location. Engine Co 17, and Engine Co 23 both tagged hydrants in an effort to help with water supply and pressure issues but found them to be dry. Companies were able to get the upper hand on the fire and command declared an out tap on the box at the 20 min time stamp. Arson was requested fairly early on in the incident as the fire was deemed suspicious after a bystander reported suspicious activity shortly before the fire started. The Bexar County Rehab was mobilized due to the high temperatures and long work ahead shifting through the debris to ensure the fire was out. Heavy equipment was called to the scene and as of 2130hrs, crews were still on scene operating. Companies on the ticket were EN14 EN17 EN23 EN24 EN39 EN40 TK14 TK17 PL38 TK40 SQ17 M40 MOF 2 MOF 3 FSO BC07 4-5-0
