My father's greatest gift that he have given me are moral values, life lessons and the value of education. His decision for me to pursue my college eventhough we don’t have enough to spare for my tuition may sound like a trivial matter, how could a simple farmer send a child into college? I can still picture him being beside me with all his support during my exams to the scholarship grant. He even went the extra mile by accompanying me in submitting the accomplished form to the scholarship aid office. Eventhough were both hungry and we don’t have spare money to buy food, and I knew he's already hungry, he still manage to say he’s okay, “tapusin mo na yan dito lang ako”. While I was reminiscing that very moment, I realized that all his sacrifices was actually his way of subtly charting my future. My father never even finished grade 4 elementary. After all those years, he promised himself that no matter how tough, he will dedicate every last drop of his sweat just to send me to school. I know I must not fail and disappoint him.
It was no surprise anymore that he ended up happier than I was when we learned that I passed the scholarship program. It is evident in his smile on how proud he was of me. I was thankful that finally, I can pursue college and make my his dream come true… I have persevered just to maintain decent grades. My inspiration is him during my stay at school. And luckily, I have graduated with flying colors. Seeing him standing at front of the stage to witness my graduation, being so proud and crying tears of joy will always be something I'll cherish forever. He made me feel like I did that victory for both of us. The bond we established and the golden moments we had as we took on challenges that came along with hardships would leave me longing for him even up to this da. No room for regrets that I am born in a poor family, though, as I know I have been fortunate enough to receive the most precious gifts a child can ever have — the gentlest of care and the truest of guidance which only he can give.
